Leadership Coaching for Career Transition
The difference between a career transition and a career change lies in their definitions. Merriam-Webster defines change as, “to become different;” “to make (someone or something) different;” to become something else.” On the other hand, transition is defined as, “a change from one state or condition to another.”
The essential difference between the words as they apply to an executive’s career is that a career change is a totally different or new career; whereas a career transition is a shift within a career. Career transitions can be subtle or major shifts that include lateral moves, promotions, or demotions.
Career transitions can involve multiple actions such as transitioning to a leadership position, new industry, geographical location, or downsizing workload.
